My take on Antennagate

I normally don't weigh in much on current events but wanted to at least get my 2 cents in on the iPhone 4 antenna issues as it appears that it's being blow way out of proportion.

First off, I live and work in one of the marginal coverage areas. It's a fact of life when you choose to live based surroundings versus cell phone coverage.

It's been my experience so far that my 4 drops fewer calls than both the 3g and 3gs's at the same location. In fact, I tend to lose more calls with my Blackberry Pearl (another ATT phone I use for my day job) than my 4.

I was able to replicate the antenna bridging issue and was able to quickly minimize the effect with a couple of strips of black electricians tape until I could actually find a case for my new phone. I was way more annoyed with the lack of cases available in my area than with the drop calls issue. Once finding a case, I was again able to hold my phone without losing the one or two bars.

I did recently take a business trip to Orlando and confirmed that when in a very coverage area for ATT, the phone beat the network speed of the previous iPhones and even did better that my blackberry.

I really think it's time to find other real news about tech. Apple has been thoroughly flogged and we are all getting free bumpers.

Myself, I would highly recommend the 4. The new features and increased performance more than make up for the small issues. Quite frankly, this is the best phone I've ever owned and I find that it allows me to spend even less time on my laptop.

It's always nice to hear another rational voice out there!
